Application process
How can I book the UZHISS accommodation?
You can book housing during your UZHISS application. If you prefer to arrange your own accommodation, select “no housing.” Rooms are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. A confirmation is included in your offer letter.
The rooms available as part of your UZHISS package have limited availability. We allocate requested rooms on a rolling basis. You will know for sure if a room is available when you receive our offer letter. The email with our offer for the course will state if you have also been assigned housing with your admission to the program. Housing is confirmed after the first payment.
How much does the housing cost?
There are three different options available for the UZHISS accommodation. Prices range from 950 to 1,100 Swiss francs for the duration of the program.
Locations
Where will I be staying?
Several housing locations are available, each with different amenities and prices. UZHISS housing is part of the student housing managed by the non-profit WOKO, therefore comparable to renting a room in a shared apartment.
What happens if the option I requested is fully booked?
If your preferred option is full, you’ll be assigned an alternative. This will be communicated in the offer letter. Upon receiving the offer letter, you may still choose to book a different location or to book an accommodation independently.
What is included in the UZHISS housing?
Housing includes basic furniture, shared kitchen and bathroom facilities, internet, and weekly cleaning of common areas. Students are responsible for keeping their own rooms clean and cleaning after themselves when using the shared facilities. No meals are included. A student meal card for discounted lunch at all UZH cafeterias on the UZH City Campus is provided (see FAQ).
How can I commute to my accommodation?
For the duration of your stay, you will receive a public transport ticket that covers the central zone 110 in Zurich (see FAQ). This includes the commute between your accommodation and the UZH City Campus. The best way to travel to your accommodation is by public transport. We highly recommend downloading the SBB mobile app. The app offers simple and personalized timetable enquiries and can be accessed here: SBB app
Dates
When can I move in and when do I need to move out?
All UZHISS housing locations will be ready to move into on the first day of summer school events. You will need to leave your room (tidied and emptied of all your belongings) the day after the last event of the summer school.
In 2026, this means:
- Summer 1 (“Finance for the Future”, “Healthy Longevity”, “International Sports Law”):
Move-in is possible from 12:00pm, on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
Move out is until 12:00pm, on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. - Summer 2 (“Deep Dive into Blockchain”, “The Global Education Landscape”):
Move-in is possible from 12:00pm, on Saturday, 4 July 2026.
Move out is until 12:00pm, on Saturday, 25 July 2026.
If you are arriving before the start or staying in Zurich beyond the last day of summer school, please note that the UZHISS accommodation will not be available to you on those days. For affordable accommodation in Zurich, we recommend referring to the Zurich Tourism website here: Zurich Tourism
